The 114th Congress convened on January 6, 2015.
Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee is expected to release an ESEA reauthorization draft this week.
The HELP Committee is expected to hold a hearing on testing on Tuesday, January 20.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced that the following new Democratic members of the House of Representatives will serve on the Committee on Education and the Workforce:
Alma Adams (D-NC)
Katherine Clark (D-MA)
Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA)
Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY)
Additionally, in the House, Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) was named Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS).
In the Senate, Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) was named Chairman of the Appropriations Committee and Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) was named Chairman of the Labor-HHS Appropriations subcommittee, while Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) was named ranking member.
