Schools nationwide are back in session and a popular assignment for students returning to class is writing about their summer vacation. In the case of the U.S. Department of Education (ED), it wasn’t much of a vacation at all as this summer was heavily focused on the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Specifically, ED released draft regulations on accountability, assessments, and, just last week, the highly anticipated regulations on the “supplement, not supplant” provision.

To learn why the supplement, not supplant provision is so important and why it is contentious, watch today’s Federal Flash.

Click to Tweet: #SupplementNotSupplant is a hot topic in #edpolicy. Watch @all4ed's #FederalFlash to find out why it's important.

"Federal Flash" is the Alliance for Excellent Education's five-minute (or less!) video series on important developments in education policy in Washington, DC.
