With the passage of​ Act 2015-3, the Alabama State Department of Education, Public Charter Schools, was established. Its public charter school responsibilities include, but are not limited to, promulgating rules and regulations, developing guidelines for public charter school authorizers and Local Education Agencies, providing support, and responding to requests for information.
Intro to Charter Schools
The following public charter school “working” documents provide preliminary guidance and basic information, specific to the Alabama School Choice and Student Opportunity Act (Act 2015-3). All preliminary guidance “highlights” key content specific to Act 2015-3 and the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) public charter school permanent rules and regulations adopted by the Alabama State Board of Education (SBOE). Preliminary guidance working documents do not attempt to address all components of Act 2015-3 or the rules and regulations. Documents will be revised as the ALSDE develops specific guidelines and detailed information. NOTE: Tabs with no content will be populated as soon as the ALSDE approves working documents that provide preliminary guidance and information related to the tab title.
